I am Dr Teona Lomsadze, an ethnomusicologist, singer and educator specialising in Georgian traditional music and its contemporary forms. I hold a PhD in Ethnomusicology from Tbilisi State Conservatoire and an MA in Music Management from the University of Leeds. Since 2018, I have served as Georgia’s regional representative to the International Council for Traditional Music and Dance (ICTMD). I am a senior researcher at the International Research Center for Traditional Polyphony in Tbilisi, contributing to major research and co-organising the International Symposia on Traditional Polyphony, the largest ethnomusicological event in Georgia. Now based in London, I continue this work remotely while teaching Georgian polyphony to a UCL-based choir and co-founding the teaching studio and cultural centre Georgian Music House.
I have taught widely across conservatoires, colleges and community settings, and previously directed the international community choir Naduri while performing with Gori Women’s Choir and the jazz ensemble Kanudosi.
I have been a visiting scholar at institutions including the University of Manchester, King’s College London, CUNY, the University of Illinois and UCLA, and have delivered guest lectures internationally. During my recent fellowship at Oxford, I was researching the internationalisation of Georgian music in the UK.
Through Georgian Music House, I offer lectures, workshops and participatory sessions for schools, universities and cultural institutions interested in Georgian traditional music and its wider cultural context.
My sessions may include:
All sessions can be adapted for different age groups and levels of musical experience, from introductory school workshops to specialist university seminars.
